    By understanding what true marketing really is. Once you figure that out, it will be a lot easier to understand how to leverage any marketing channel (including social media). Let us begin!

    Marketing revolves around (but is not limited to) the 4 P’s:

    Product - both products and services are included here, but it goes deeper than that. You need to know your product or service inside out. But you also need to know why yours is the best (or why it’s not). You need to find your customers’ pain points and figure out exactly why you’re the right solution for them. You cannot convey this message in your marketing before you understand it.
    Price - you’re in business to make money, right? Wrong! You’re in business to solve a problem! But making money allows you to stay afloat and keep solving that problem. So your business needs to be profitable, which will be both the result of having a good product (or service), and smart pricing. Find your pricing level and make sure you dominate that space! Even if you’re cheapest, dominate your competition !
    Promotion - this is where things like branding, email marketing, social media marketing, search engine marketing, etc. come in. Even if you have the best product at the perfect price, it won’t matter if no one knows about it. Now we’re getting into the nitty-gritty of how to leverage social media. You can’t do it before you get the first two P’s out of the way.
    Placement - place your product (or service) in front of the right customers at the right time and price point, and they will buy it.

    Once all of this is out of the way, it’s as simple as telling (and showing) your ideal customers that you understand their problem and that you can help. Don’t merely run ads - create content that is actually helpful and people will get involved with your business.

    Paid ads are still relatively cheap on social media and can help you grow your audience dramatically. However, if your content is pointless, this won’t help. You need to create content your potential customers care about.

    Don’t focus much on selling - if your marketing is good enough (you’ve done everything from the 4 P’s right), then the product or service will sell itself. From there on out, your mission is to just get it in front of the audience. People who buy without being sold to are much more likely to become advocates of your product or service anyway. No one likes being sold to.
    Finally, create lots of content on the relevant channels and re-purpose it. You have an article on your blog? Cool - create a smaller article and post it here or on LinkedIn with a link to the bigger article. You got 7 tips to do something? Post on the of the tips on Facebook and let people come to your site for the rest. Then create an infographic with those 7 tips. Improvise and be smart with your content. This is the best way to leverage social media.
